Paavo Järvi is today’s most
ardent champion of the music of Paul Hindemith.
This album brings together
several unforgettable live
performances from the brilliant Estonian conductor and
Frankfurt Radio Symphony
from between 2010 and 2013.
I have been a great admirer of Hindemith’s music for years and I think it unfortunate that it is not more often performed; he was a gi-ant of the twentieth century with a very origi-nal voice. This CD represents two of his iconic works – the Symphonic Metamorpho-sis and Mathis der Maler – but also includes works that are seldom heard and equally brilliant – Ragtime and Five Pieces for String Orchestra. The music of Hindemith is fre-quently featured in my concert programmes. It has been my wish to gain greater recogni-tion for this fantastic music and so it was a particularly special honour to receive the Hindemith Prize. I hope that this recording further highlights the unique voice of this great composer.
