Of all composers, Schubert really is the genius of the inner self, exploring the twists and turns of human psychology. His music challenges the imagination of the listener. Denis Pascal's second CD devoted to this composer offers two of his most mature works, the Sonata No. 20 in A major D.959 and the Quatre impromptus D. 899, masterpieces highlighting the beauty of the melody and the contrasts between the lightness and  the darkness of the sound. Profundly aware of the historical context, the French pianist achieves a moving interpretation that never falls into sentimentalism, but truly emphasizes the sophistication of Schubert's writing.
