The production of Dido and Aeneas, directed by Deborah Warner and interpreted by Les Arts Florissants was overwhelmingly
acclaimed when created at the Wiener Festwochen in 2006 and once again when repeated at the Opéra Comique in 2008.
This short opera was one of the very first in the history of English music and is particularly dear to William Christie who has
recorded and directed it on several occasions, showing the diversity of interpretations and perceptions offered by baroque
musical art and drama. Perfect in form and balance, of a density only equalled by the intensity of its psychological scope,
Dido and Aeneas lends itself to a wide range of options, never ceasing to appeal to a wide audience.
The brilliant stage direction by Deborah Warner combines various time spaces
of the 17th century with the present day in a depth of field taken to even greater heights by subtle lighting schemes.
The elegant, intelligent production for television by François Roussillon entirely sustains the stage direction and music and
