This re-recording of the CD production with Russian music for brass quintet shows not only the widest range of facets of this fascinating ensemble of two trumpets, trombone, horn and tuba, but also a very great variety of aspects of Russian music. The works on this recording - some of them original compositions, others arrangements by the ensemble - include music by well known composers such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Skryabin, but also works by relatively unknown composers, including contemporary ones (Grischin, Poteenko). What they all have in common is their convincing musical quality and power of statement, preserved in the arrangements as well. This is an impressive glimpse into Russian music of the past 200 years. |
