This is a new recording, on period instruments, of Mozart’s full major cycle of string quartets - gathering the famous “Spring”, “Hunt” and “Dissonance”. The Six Quartets dedicated to Haydn, written between 1782 and 1785, are, in Mozart’s own words; “the fruits of a long and laborious effort.” These works are unprecedent-ed in their ambitious writing, contrapuntal com-plexity and harmonic audacity. Almost as soon as they were published by Artaria in Vienna in September 1785, they were the subject both of much lively criticism, and many essays on music theory. Quatuor Cambini - Paris, created in 2007, gath-ers some of the best French performers on peri-od instruments, soloists in prestigious orches-tras such as Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Les Talens Lyriques, Le Cercle de l’Harmonie. |
