Once again, cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca renews artistic perspectives in relation to his instrument. With "Legacy" (V7259) released in early 2023, he questioned the notion of heritage in music, through a mirroring between the concerti by Haydn and the works of his master Porpora, not forgetting to highlight fruitful interactions with Mozart. "Wonderful World", the fruit of a collaboration with Yann ArthusBertrand, awakened our consciences to environmental issues (V7362, 2021).
In this new and fourth album for naive, the French cellist fulfills a desire for intimacy, which already guided him a few years ago when he designed "Cello 360" (V7260, 2020), a most fascinating solitary journey across genres, styles and periods, where Thierry Escaich was next to Charlie Chaplin and Ligeti, or Marin Marais with the Beatles and Dutilleux. This time round, he will not be alone, as celebrating eternal love on one's own would be a contradiction in terms. Drawing inspiration from the correspondence of the famous Schumann couple, "Love Letters" transcribes the passion which animated the epistolary exchanges between Clara and Robert, only with sounds, not words.
