For his new record, Atsushi Sakaï, a gambist, devotes himself to Couperin (a program he completes with a few Forqueray pieces). An atmosphere of mystery stinks both the recorded works and their genesis.
Of the two Couperins (father and son), it is with the second - François - that one has only very recently attributed the paternity of the works; paternity that for the partitions of Forqueray remains uncertain. This enigmatic aura, to say the least, inspires Atsushi Sakaï and the musicians who surround him: Christophe Rousset at the harpsichord, and Marion Martineau and Isabelle Saint-Yves at the viola da gamba. Their interpretation, adorned with a touching charm, feeds on it.
The melancholy, even the funereal character of the works, alternate with a frank gaiety in the dances which form the First Suite of Couperin. We will retain here from the interpreters a flawless technique, serving the baroque grace of these pages.

The new record of the excellent violist Atsushi Sakaï brings together pieces of Couperin and Forqueray. The program is wreathed in an atmosphere of mystery and the genesis of the works. If the paternity of Couperin 's pieces for rape can be attributed to Francis since the beginning of the 20th century, that of Forqueray is still uncertain. And it is this enigmatic aura of the scores that inspires Atsushi Sakai and his partners. Their interpretation is adorned with a touching charm. The melancholy, even the gloomy vibe of the works, alternates with frank cheerfulness in the dances of Couperin's First Suite. As always with Atsushi Sakai and his musicians, the flawless technique at the service of the Baroque grace is a continuous wonder.
