《海灘》及《日暮之歌》均是本世紀初交替之際豐碩成果之一，也是戴流士創作臻於成熟之作，而《海灘》更被許多人公認是他最好的作品。由惠特曼作詞，編制上是給男中音、合唱團及管弦樂團。描寫公鳥喪偶之心情。《日暮之歌》則描述生命的短暫。而戴流士在譜寫《離別之歌》時，已眼盲、殘廢而且無所依靠；他在一九二0年代早期即已沈默不語，直到一位年輕作曲家芬比向他求助，才再度燃起他創作的意念；《離別之歌》首演於1932年，是他晚期最了不起的創作。三首戴流士以人生別離悲苦為題的大作，加上希寇克斯的細膩指揮，為此碟贏得1994年留聲機「合唱類大獎」，實至名歸，一點也不令人意外！
