Aloÿs Claussmann was an organist, pianist and composer. A student of Eugene Gigout at the Ecole Niedermeyer, he obtained a first prize in piano and organ before winning the Grand Prix of the Department of Fine Arts in 1872. His music is a very successful synthesis of French and German schools, in which one can hear influences of both Cesar Franck and Robert Schumann. This disc featuring pianist Claudine Simon presents a fascinating and varied selection of Claussmann's piano music. |
