Here's a riddle: What is the connection between the eglise de la Madeleine (Church of the Madeleine), Perigueux partridge pâte with truffles, poetry entitled "La Source Chaude," Liszt, two assassins guillotined in Toulouse on the 21st of April, 1874, the Oratorio of the Seven Words of Jesus and the calculation of a stellar parallax? There is only one answer: Fernand de la Tombelle . This poet, musician, excellent organist, as well as a prolific and popular composer, was also a sophisticated sculptor and competent astronomer! His little-known works include hundreds of opus numbers amongst which we find numerous arias, oratorios, stage music, orchestra suites, symphonic poems, cantatas and chamber music. Laurent Martin, a great specialist of Nineteenth Century France, and the Satie Quartet have chosen to introduce us to this intimate and passionate side of his works in this world first, following the success of their first collaboration dedicated to Alexis de Castillon in 2010. |
