安德魯姊妹 / 萊姆酒和可口可樂

The Andrews Sisters: LaVerne Sophia, Maxene Anglyn, Patricia Marie, respectively
contralto, soprano and mezzo-soprano, start their first vocal trio from 1925, the year their model The
Boswell Sisters, make their first recordings. They perpetuate a century-old "close harmony" style
(singing in unison with a tonal difference between voices not exceeding an octave) that The Brox Sisters
practice on Broadway since 1921, The Hamilton Sisters and Fordyce aka Three X Sisters popularize
on N.B.C. since 1923 and The Pickens Sisters record for Victor since 1932. In early 1937, in general
indifference, they engrave a first 78 rpm with Leon Belasco Orchestra. Only the trumpet player of the
band, Victor Schoen, becomes aware of the potential of the three girls. He invites them to participate in
the program of a New York radio station. Dave Kapp, artistic director of Decca, offers them a recording
contract and recruits Victor Schoen as musical director. During their second session on November 24,
1937, they perform Bei Mir Bist Du Schon (With me, you're beautiful), adaptation by Sammy Cahn, of a
popular Yiddish song. This title, thanks to the numerous radio broadcasts, will establish their notoriety
on all the American territory. They accumulate successes such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Three
Little Sisters, Do not Sit Under The Apple Tree, Rum and Coca Cola, which contain themes related
to military service. They quickly become the mascots of most American regiments and participate in
several tours to support the morale of the troops. Rum & Coca-Cola will become around the world their
most iconic song, despite the controversies surrounding its dissemination, (citation of a trademark
and suggestive words deemed licentious) The Andrews Sisters embody a more modern and dynamic
approach to boogie-woogie song, which appeals to a wider audience. With Bing Crosby, the most
popular American singer, they release 47 titles including 23 will integrate the charts of the best sales.
Their immense popularity will allow them to be in the casting of 17 films. The successive deaths of their
parents, (Ollie in 1948, Peter in 1949) omnipresent in the conduct of their career, break the harmony
that reigned until then within the trio. The first dissensions appear, exacerbated by their respective
spouses, all involved in the "affairs" of the trio. Patty is the first to distance herself, encouraged by her
husband, Walter Weschler, pianist and band manager. The year 1953 mark the end of The Andrews
Sisters. Sales of their records now exceed 90 million copies. Neither Patty solo, nor Maxene and
LaVerne duo will manage to regain the favour of the public. The trio will try in vain for a comeback
at Capitol in 1956 and Dot Records in 1962, but none of their titles made until 1967 will arouse the
attention of the public. LaVerne, founder of the trio, died May 8, 1967, Maxene Andrews on October 21,
1995 and Patty on January 30, 2013.
