1942年為紀念哥倫布發現新大陸四百五十週年，華爾頓替BBC廣播劇《克里斯多福．哥倫布》寫作長達一個小時的配樂。到了2002年華爾頓誕生百年祭，有兩位作曲家將那些配樂和廣播劇本重新整理，形成所謂的「音樂會腳本」《克里斯多福．哥倫布-音樂旅行》，供音樂會演出之用。其中哥倫布船隊出發、葛拉納達皇家遊行、哥倫布返鄉的歡呼，還有三首由女高音、次女高音擔綱獨唱的歌曲，都被學者肯定為精彩傑作。1947年華爾頓為勞倫斯．奧利佛爵士所主演的電影《哈姆雷特》譜寫配樂，當時的指揮者馬西耶森1967年將之整理成組曲《哈姆雷特與歐菲莉亞》，並賦予子題《為管弦樂團的詩曲》。全曲陰暗濃烈，高把位小提琴寫作特別動人，彷彿是華爾頓獻給早逝女友的哀歌。理查．希寇克斯現任澳洲雪梨歌劇院音樂總監，其所灌錄唱片專輯獲獎無數，一向是內行鑑賞家的最愛。
