Our programme is based around four pieces composed between 1967 and 1987, each one the result of an encounter between a composer and a performer. Taken together they form a coherent whole, each piece being part of a shared field of musical and sound research. Firstly, a reevaluation of the musical language of the guitar: in these works, the codes of classical music are sometimes infringed or handled in a tongue in cheek manner, the guitar often being used to imitate another instrument. Secondly, to go beyond the technical possibilities of the instrument, advancing the quest for expressivity ever further. Each piece in our programme requires new ways of playing, monopolising the performer's hands in an original way or introducing various external elements, and sometimes staging the whole thing. Furthermore, encourage a material-focused listening to sound, giving full importance to resonance, harmonic timbre, texture, and attacks, with the idea of composing a true 'soundscape.' Finally, explore the relationship with time and the stage by focusing attention on slow transformations, repetitions, micro-events, rifts, and gestures, fostering the composition of a complete musical fantasy. Three improvised pieces, inspired by the works described above, the instruments used during the recording and the particular acoustics of the Conservatoire de Paris, complete our programme. These improvisational moments have been conceived to exploit the same resources and explore the same fields of sound research as those at work in the composed works on our programme.
