Mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert and pianist Joseph Middleton in Schubert's Der Zwerg, D. 771, a dramatic ballad of haunting intensity and psychological depth. Introducing their upcoming BIS album Irrlichter – Schubert Songs (BIS-2458), to be released on 24 April 2026 — pre-order / pre-save here: https://bisrecords.lnk.to/2458 The title of the recital, Irrlichter (will-o'-the-wisp), comes from one of Rennert's favourite songs, Des Fischers Liebesglück. Like a will-o'-the-wisp, Schubert's music leaves us in a state of uncertainty — suspended between memory and longing. This sense of ambiguity runs through the programme, shaping a twilight world in which each song reveals a different dream, a different longing to be discovered.
