One of the most talented French Romantic composers, Charles-Valentin Alkan has concentrated his production on works for solo piano. Yury Favorin, a young Russian surdoue, takes two of his major opus, whose music has nothing to envy to that of Liszt or Chopin.
First, the Symphony for Piano Solo, an intense, deep and dense writing, which explores and fakes the colored timbres of the instrument. Then, the Great Sonata "The Four Ages", worthy of the sonatas of Beethoven; it is a masterly work, one of the most accomplished of the romantic and announcing piano of the Liszt Sonata. Alkan describes four ages of the life of a man in four movements; and, unlike the usual quick / slow alternation, these are more and more slow, like the inevitable slowing down of life. In the spirit of 20 years succeeds the stunning virtuosity of 30 years; 40 years depicts the tender moment of a couple with his children; then comes the slow, dark and despairing 50 years that clot one of the peaks of the production of all the romantic repertoire.
Habitual of La Folle Journee and La Roque d'Antheron Festival, recently rewarded by a Pianist Maestro, Yury Favorin is the ideal interpreter to tackle this difficult writing but allowing a very wide range of emotions.
